BMW Group Classic Unveils Digital Archive of Historic Models for Public Access
BMW Group Classic launches a digital archive of historic models, offering detailed insights into BMW, MINI, and BMW Motorrad vehicles.

Munich: #bmwgroup Classic has made history more accessible than ever by unveiling a comprehensive digital archive featuring historic model overviews of BMW, MINI, and BMW Motorrad vehicles. This move enhances the recently updated BMW Group Online Archive, allowing automobile enthusiasts, researchers, and collectors to explore detailed records of iconic BMW vehicles spanning 80 years.
The initiative follows the initial release of MINI and BMW Motorrad historical model overviews in 2021. Now, the BMW brand’s entire heritage catalog is available online, covering series vehicles from the BMW 3/15 hp (1928) to the BMW 3 Series (E46) and BMW Z4 (E85/E86), extending up to 2008.
A Treasure Trove of Classic Vehicles
The digital archive provides an in-depth look at classic models, offering concise yet informative details on model series, body types, and engine specifications. BMW Group Classic has meticulously curated a collection of 614 data sets and 524 high-quality images sourced from its vehicle collection and historic media archive. The platform is designed to accommodate future updates, ensuring seamless integration of newer classic models.
Unprecedented Access to BMW Heritage
The newly structured digital archive goes beyond just vehicle details. It links users to the BMW Group Classic Online Archive, which was revamped in 2024 to include a wealth of additional materials. These resources encompass brochures, workshop manuals, owner literature, and specialist books, offering a holistic research experience for BMW enthusiasts worldwide.
Katrin Gfrörer, Head of BMW Group Archives and Historic Vehicle Collection, emphasized the significance of this step, stating:
"By making our complete historical model overviews accessible online, we are fulfilling a long-standing public demand for historic product information. This enhances customer engagement and strengthens BMW Group Classic’s digital transformation strategy. Furthermore, most of our database is now publicly accessible for research and information purposes, reinforcing our commitment to automotive history."
Future-Proofing Automotive History
BMW Group Classic’s digital model overviews mark a significant step in preserving and sharing the brand’s rich automotive heritage. By offering an easily accessible and continually expandable platform, BMW ensures that its legacy remains within reach of historians, collectors, and BMW aficionados across the globe.
The digital historical archive is now live on the BMW Group Archive website, setting a new benchmark in automotive digitalization.
