Kanpur Rural Court Lacks Toilets
Lawyers in Kanpur demand urgent construction of toilets in the old rural court, citing inconvenience for litigants and violating fundamental rights.

KANPUR:Lawyers practicing at the Kanpur Rural Court have intensified their demand for the construction of proper toilet facilities within the court premises. Despite accommodating numerous courts and witnessing heavy footfall daily, the old court building remains devoid of basic sanitation amenities. This critical oversight has caused immense hardship for both legal professionals and the public visiting the court for legal matters.
The Supreme Court of India has unequivocally recognized access to sanitation as a fundamental right. However, the Kanpur Rural Court, despite acknowledging the issue, has failed to provide adequate facilities for men, women, differently-abled individuals, and transgender persons. This situation not only violates fundamental rights but also reflects poorly on the judicial system.
The Lawyers' Association, led by former President Pandit Ravindra Sharma, has been actively pursuing this matter. They have conducted inspections with court officials and PWD engineers, highlighting the urgent need for these facilities. District Judge Pradeep Kumar Singh has assured the legal community that the construction of toilets will be expedited, offering a glimmer of hope to all who utilize the court's services.
